Special Education Workshop Opportunities -- Course Descriptions
The Minnesota Special Education Project offers some free training opportunities for all charter schools. In addition, the Special Education Project also offers fee-based training opportunities. General descriptions of workshops typically offered by the Project are listed below. Please make sure to register for events in which you are interested by the appropriate deadline. Class sizes are often limited, so early registration will ensure your spot in the training.

Regional Special Education Training
Presenters: MCSSEP Staff
Cost: Free to schools that have contracted with MCSSEP; $30 for participants from non-member schools. (Lunch and training materials are included.)

Targeting Transition Workshop
Presenters: Janet Becker & Kathy Skiba
Cost per participant: $120 includes curriculum and software. Lunch will be provided.
Registration includes the following material/software:
- A single-user's license for Targeting Transition software (Windows and Macintosh).
- A single-user's license for RubricMakerTM software (including all Transition rubrics).
- One-year access to online Transition activities.
The training session includes:
- Review of the Targeting Transition process (using rubrics to manage transition).
- Hands-on practice using the Targeting Transition software:
- entering and managing student data
- using rubric criteria to assist in writing IEPs
- exporting and importing student files
- adding/removing rubrics from student folders
- Hands-on practice using RubricMakerTM software:
- editing rubrics
- designing new rubrics.
- Strategies discussed throughout the day for simplifying the process and meeting IDEA requirements.

Woodcock Johnson III Training
Woodcock Johnson III is a comprehensive measure of academic achievement
Course Note: Teachers who are not familiar with Woodcock Johnson must be trained prior to ordering or administering this test. Teachers who already use this assessment or have been trained in the past couple of years do not need to attend again.
Bring: Your WJIII manual and one set of protocols if you have them.
Presenters: MCSSEP Staff
Cost: Free for schools that have contracted with MCSSEP. $35 per participant from non-member schools. (Lunch will not be provided, but an hour break will be built in for participants to enjoy lunch at an area locale).
